Over the Summer and Back to Lehigh

5 09 2010

Welcome back to everyone. School is finally back in action and classes are in full swing. I apologize for my absence on the blog, but I was away for a large part of the summer.

I studied in Europe this summer, and did a 7-week study abroad program in London. I took two classes, a film and literature one, through the program IES. The experience was absolutely amazing and I went with another friend from Lehigh.

London is a bustling, European city. There seems to always be something to do, or go to visit. The culture is rich, and the food, surprisingly, is not that bad. I did get to try the signature fish and chips from multiple different restaurants. But I would say my best dining experience was the authentic Indian food. I loved the oven-baked tandoori chicken and the seasoned okra was delicious. I also really enjoyed nan bread, with is like a light, thin bread usually glossed with butter and garlic.

London also offered a great opportunity to see and experience art and museums. All the national museums offer free admission. Some of my favorite museums were the Victoria and Albert museum and the Tate Modern as well. I also saw a slew of movies, some American and one European. The european movie I saw was called Gainsbourg, which was interesting, but a bit too artsy for my style.

The night life was pretty hopping as well. I did get to go to the big touristy clubs in Picadilly Circus, but I also went to the local pubs. The pubs were a great place to go during the World Cup because regardless of which country was playing, the games would always be on in the pubs with plenty of people watching. I also was in London during the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament. I am big tennis player and fan, so it was amazing to get to go a major grand slam tournament. I also freaked out when I was literally 10 feet away from Andy Roddick.

Overall, summer was great, but I am definitely ready to get back into my routine here at Lehigh. I have a good feeling about this year!
